Partial water changes (replacing 30% of the water in your aquarium) are the most important way to ensure that your fish are healthy and happy.

Please follow these steps for a partial water changes:

  • Fill a clean bucket (not washed with soap or detergents) with lukewarm tap water and treat it by adding GloFish® Water Conditioner and GloFish® Water Balance. GloFish® Water Conditioner removes chemicals in tap water such as chlorine and chloramines, which are harmful to your fish.
  • Let the new water sit for a few hours until it reaches room temperature.
  • Once the new water has reached room temperature, remove and discard about 30% of the old water from the aquarium.
  • Slowly add the new water into the aquarium.

Helpful Hints

  • There is no need to remove the fish from the aquarium when making a partial water change, as this would cause more stress for the fish.
  • If your fish’s fins become droopy or flat, this is an indication that the water quality may not be safe, in which case an immediate water change is required.
  • If you perform a partial water change and the water still looks dirty or cloudy, perform another partial water change the following day. If this does not solve the problem, is it likely that the fish are being overfed.
  • Change your filter cartridge once every 30 days.
